Elvers Super League XII Predictor Competition (2007)

Members of Brentwood Elvers RLFC can enter a great new competition being run on the Elvers forum.

All you have to do is predict who will win, and by what margin of victory, in a selected match each week during the 2007 season.Once you've figured out your prediction, just post it on the forum thread for that week. After the match, we will calculate the scores, and your position will appear in the league table. The player with the highest score after the regular Super League season will win a fabulous prize at the Elvers end of season awards. It's FREE to enter, but you need to be an Elver to win the prizes. To keep it interesting, spot-prizes will be thrown in, and also keep a look out for the Play-offs and Grand Final night, when you'll have a chance to win some more great prizes! Keep checking back here for the latest news. Remember, you must be a member of the Brentwood Elvers club to qualify for the prizes (see rules and regulations).

HOW TO JOIN IN

If you are not already an Elvers forum member, just follow this link to join. Once you have received an official forum login, e-mail <insert e-mail address> with your real and login name (so that we'll know who to give the prizes to!)

HOW IT WORKS

Every Monday, one British based Engage Super League or Carnegie Challenge Cup fixture will be selected (normally a weekend televised game). You have until one hour before the advertised kick-off time to post your predictions of the match result. You will win Elvers Points every week by correctly predicting either of the following from the chosen game:

-Winning Team
-Margin of Victory (points)

"Elvers points" will be awarded on the following basis:

Predicting the winning team - 2 Elvers points

Predicting the exact margin of victory - 10 Elvers points
Being 1-6 points away from the margin of victory - 5 Elvers points
Being 7-12 points away from the margin of victory - 3 Elvers points
Being 13-18 points away from the margin of victory - 2 Elvers points
Being 19+ points away from the margin of victory - 1 Elvers point

Bonus for predicting both the correct winner and margin of victory - 5 Elvers points

So if you predicted last year's Grand Final had ended a Saints victory by a margin of 6, you'd get 2 Elvers points for getting the team right, and because Saints won the Grand Final by a 22 point margin, you'd have finished with 3 Elvers points for guessing to within 13-18 points of the winning margin! So the closer you get to predicting the winning margin, the more points you score each week. And remember, even if you don't predict the winner, you will still score points by predicting the correct margin of victory. A maximum of 17 points can be scored each week!

The boring (but necessary) stuff.

Drawn matches at 80 minutes count zero points to all entrants (even if you predicted a draw!) - with the exception of grand final and play-off games, or matches whose result at 80 minutes cannot be drawn. In this event, the result at termination of play will be used. The weekly game selected will be posted as the start of a new thread on the Elvers Forum. Your entry to each round is confirmed only by posting a reply to that forum thread under your recognised login name. You cannot post predictions on anybody else's behalf. The name of the poster is the name of the entry. Club members must ensure the organiser knows who the login user is. Those from outside the club will be identified as "guest" - and will not be entitled to prizes. One entry per person per round. Don't bother entering in the same week under more than one member ID. This will result in being barred from future rounds and prizes. Only one competition thread will appear each round. Ensure you post your entry on the correct thread, for a FORTHCOMING GAME. Predictions placed incorrectly on the forum cannot be considered for entry.

Your entry on the official competition thread should be made in the same format as this example:

Harlequins 16 Huddersfied 14 (Harlequins by 2)

Any additional numbers or non-participating team names will be ignored. Illegible, innacurate or ambiguous entries will be discounted. To become a forum user, click here! <insert link> In the event of any user entering more than one intentional prediction for a single game, the posting with the earliest time and date ONLY is valid, even if edited after initial posting. Accidental errors in initial entries can be corrected, butchanges made after KO time cannot be accepted and the prediction for that game will be void. Any inappropriate use of the competition thread will result in that person's entry being withdrawn . Persistent abuse will be punishable by exclusion from the competition. The named weekly match on the competition thread will not change. However in the event of that game not taking place at the stated time and date, or the game's cancellation, postponement, abandonment, non-result etc after the thread is published - all predictions are void -predictions contained on the thread will not be carried over to future replays of the original match. If the actual start time of the game is officially changed after the stated time on the thread is first published, entry closes one hour before the rescheduled kick-off time. If the published kick-off time is delayed, entries close one hour before the scheduled kick-off (as stated on http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/rugby_league/default.stm) or the fixtures section of the relevant sanctioning body website). In the event of no suitable fixture being available for the competition, the organisers may select a fixture from a different rugby league competition. Results can aslo be found from this link. After the published result, the organisers will re-calculate the league, based entirely on the entries contained on the official competition thread, using the rules set out herein. If you believe points have been awarded incorrectly, you must contact the organisers before closing of the next round of competition. Competition entry is free. No purchase is necessary. The organisers reserve the right to limit entry, and competition prizes, to the following criteria - a current registered Brentwood Elvers player, an immediate family member or identified close friend of a current Brentwood Elvers player, a member of coaching and administrative staff at Brentwood Elvers, and immediate family members of coaching or administrative staff. Sponsors, vice presidents, and individuals or organisations affiliated to the Brentwood Elvers RLFC. Affiliation status, winning a Brentwood Elvers prize, and attendance at the Elvers Awards event is subject to the total and final discretion of the Chairman of Brentwood Elvers. The competition ends at completion of the 2007 regular season. Only entrants with a mathematical chance of winning the grand prize entirely on the outcome of the final predictor game will be accepted as official entrants to the competition that week. In the event of a tie at completion of the final round of the prediction competition, the tied entrant scoring the highest number of points in the final predictor will be deemed the winner. If the winner cannot be found using this method, the winner will be identified through an eliminator in a best of five game of heads-and-tails (tossing a coin), organised by the chairman, and held at the end of season awards! Details will be published in advance of such an occurrence. In the event of an identified or unidentified non-member leading the competition or any element therein, the Chairman reserves the right to defer competition prizes to the highest placed member of the Elvers club (membership criteria as described above). By entering the Brentwood Elvers Website forum prediction league, you are asserting your agreement with these terms and conditions. It is the responsibility of actual and likely prize winners to clearly demonstrate to the Chairman beforehand their eligibility to win a prize. Inability or unwillingness to do so will result in immediate ineligibility to win prizes, such prizes being deferred to the best placed entrant(s) who fully meet the criteria for prize winning. This process will continue until a winner who meets the eligibility criteria is found (at which point, the above stated tie-break rules, if appropriate, will apply). The chairman can currently be contacted by emailing rugbyleague@brentwoodlevers.co.uk.The decision of the Chairman is final in all matters relating to this competition - and no correspondence will be entered into! The Chairman reserves the right to suspend temporarily or permanently, cancel or alter at any time the competition, its competitors, published prizes, and to amend competition rules and regulations as he sees fit. Any changes to these rules will be clearly posted here.
